The best K-beauty products to buy right now each do one job well, and three of them belong in almost any routine. COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence is the hydrating layer to start with: 96% snail secretion filtrate in a fragrance-free formula of thirteen ingredients. SKIN1004 Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum is an SPF 50 sunscreen with a watery, serum-like texture, the kind you’ll put on every morning without arguing with yourself. And Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream is a plain barrier cream built on ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids, sold in a tube big enough for face and body. The other seven fill narrower slots: a toner, a serum, a jelly cream, an overnight mask, a cleansing balm, exfoliating pads and a lip mask. You don’t need all ten.
The ten at a glance
Prices move constantly, so we link to live listings instead of printing a number that is wrong by the time you read it. Links go to Amazon, which is where a referral gets credited.
1. COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence
COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence is a lightweight essence you pat on after cleansing and toning, before moisturizer. COSRX still calls it that; it’s also sold as Snail Mucin 96% Repairing Serum. COSRX puts the snail secretion filtrate at 96% and backs it with sodium hyaluronate, betaine, allantoin and panthenol. The list stops at thirteen ingredients, and the brand calls the formula fragrance free.
COSRX says it suits all skin types, sensitive included. The drawback is the ingredient itself. Snail mucin comes from an animal, so it’s out if you buy vegan, and the texture isn’t for everyone. Our snail mucin explainer covers what the stuff is.
2. SKIN1004 Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum
SKIN1004 Hyalu-Cica Water-Fit Sun Serum is sold in the U.S. as Sun Serum UV, labeled SPF 50 with broad-spectrum coverage. SKIN1004 describes it as light and watery with minimal stickiness and a no-white-cast finish. Alongside the filters you get panthenol, centella extract, hyaluronic acid and extracts of rice, oat and soybean.
The brand lists it for dry and normal skin. The watery feel is also why our Korean sunscreen guide likes it for anyone who hates feeling sunscreen at all. One thing to know before you buy: the U.S. bottle’s active ingredients are avobenzone, homosalate, octisalate and octocrylene. Those are the familiar American chemical filters, not the newer ones Korean sunscreens are known for.
3. Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream
No glow claims, no jelly texture, no pretty jar. Illiyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream is a white cream in a 6.76 ounce tube, sold for face and body. It’s built on ceramides, fatty acids and cholesterol, the three lipids a dry barrier runs short on, and the ingredient list shows no added fragrance. The ceramide guide explains why that trio matters.
Buy it if your skin is dry, tight after washing or easily irritated. The drawback is that it’s plain. There’s no niacinamide on the list, and Illiyoon doesn’t say how many ceramides are in it.
4. Anua Heartleaf 77 Soothing Toner
Anua Heartleaf 77 Soothing Toner is a lightweight toner, and the name tells you the formula. Anua says it’s 77% heartleaf, and houttuynia cordata water is the first ingredient on the list, ahead of plain water. After that come glycerin, betaine and panthenol, with centella extract further down. Anua labels it fragrance free and non-comedogenic.
Anua pitches it at stressed, sensitive-feeling skin, and it’s a gentle first product for a beginner. Our heartleaf guide has more on the plant. Don’t expect an exfoliant. There are no exfoliating acids in this bottle, so it won’t smooth texture or clear pores, and dry skin will want something richer over it.
5. Beauty of Joseon Glow Serum
One serum, two popular ingredients. Beauty of Joseon Glow Serum is sold as 60% propolis and 2% niacinamide. Beauty of Joseon itself gives no percentages, and water comes first on the ingredient list, so don’t lean too hard on those numbers. Sodium hyaluronate and centella extract are on the list too. Propolis is the resin bees make to seal their hives; our propolis guide covers what it’s used for. Centella plays a supporting role here; the centella guide has products built around it.
This is a good starter serum for dull or uneven-looking skin. Read the label first, though. It includes betaine salicylate, a BHA that mildly exfoliates. That’s a reason to skip it on nights you use acid pads, and a reason for sensitive skin to go slowly.
6. Medicube Collagen Jelly Cream
Medicube Collagen Jelly Cream is a see-through pink jelly that Medicube sells on a “glass glow” finish. The brand names niacinamide, freeze-dried hydrolyzed collagen and squalane as its key ingredients, calls the formula silicone free, and says the pink comes from vitamin ingredients, not artificial color. Medicube lists it for combination, dry and oily skin, morning and night.
Buy it for the texture and the shine. Medicube’s firming numbers come from its own consumer study and self-test reports, so treat them as marketing. Glass skin is about how smooth, hydrated skin reflects light, as our glass skin explainer lays out. The drawback: fragrance is on the ingredient list.
7. Biodance Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask
A sheet mask you wear for hours. Biodance Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask is a hydrogel sheet meant to stay on for three to four hours or overnight, and it turns transparent as the essence sinks in. The ingredient list opens with water and glycerin and includes niacinamide, collagen, hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid and galactomyces ferment.
It suits dry or tired-looking skin before a day you want to look rested. The catch is the format. Four single-use masks come in a box, and you need a night at home to wear one. The sheet mask guide compares it with the quicker kind.
8. Heimish All Clean Balm
Heimish All Clean Balm is a solid balm in a 4 ounce jar that melts into an oil as you massage it over dry skin, sold as a remover for makeup, including waterproof eye makeup. Its base is cleansing esters and emulsifiers, with shea butter and coconut extract.
It’s for anyone who wears makeup daily. Follow it with a regular face wash; the cleansing balm guide explains double cleansing. Two drawbacks. It’s scented with a long list of essential oils, which reactive skin may not enjoy, and the ingredient list includes polyethylene.
9. Medicube Zero Pore Pads
Medicube Zero Pore Pads come seventy to a tub, soaked in a mild acid toner. One side of each pad is embossed to exfoliate and the other is smooth. The ingredient list has lactic acid, salicylic acid and betaine salicylate, and Medicube names white willow bark at 0.45% as its BHA source. The brand aims them at excess oil, rough texture and blackheads.
The name oversells it. Pores don’t shrink to zero, and our Zero Pore Pad review says so plainly. Medicube says they’re gentle enough for daily use; we’d start with two or three nights a week. The label also lists denatured alcohol and several citrus and herb oils, so skip them if your skin is dry or reactive. Wear sunscreen every morning while you use them.
10. Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask
Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is an overnight lip mask in a small jar. Laneige names shea butter, murumuru seed butter, coconut oil, vitamin C and what it calls a Berry Fruit Complex, and says to apply it generously before bed.
It’s for lips that are dry, flaky or tight by morning. It sits last here because it’s the least necessary thing on the list: our Lip Sleeping Mask review points out that much of the benefit comes from sealing lips overnight, which a cheaper balm can also do. It’s a jar you dip into nightly, and fragrance is on the ingredient list.
How we picked
We wanted one product per step and no more than two from any brand. One name you might expect is missing. Sulwhasoo is a luxury purchase with its own First Care Activating Serum review.
How to build a routine from these
Go thinnest to thickest, with sunscreen last in the morning.
Morning: Anua toner, COSRX essence, a moisturizer (the Medicube jelly cream or Illiyoon), then the SKIN1004 sunscreen.
Night: Heimish balm, then a regular face wash, which this list doesn’t include. Toner or a Zero Pore Pad, not both. Essence, the Glow Serum on nights you skip the pads, moisturizer, and the Laneige mask on your lips.
Save the Biodance mask for a night in. That’s the long version, and nobody needs it daily. Our guide to the 10-step Korean routine treats the steps as a menu, and so should you.
If I Were You
- If you’re buying one thing, make it the sunscreen. It’s the only product here you’ll use every single day.
- If your skin is dry or easily irritated, buy Illiyoon and the COSRX essence, and leave the pads and the Glow Serum alone for now.
- If you’re oily with clogged pores, start with the Anua toner and the Zero Pore Pads a few nights a week.
- If you want the glow, layer the COSRX essence under the Medicube jelly cream.
- If fragrance bothers you, skip the Medicube jelly cream, the Heimish balm, the Zero Pore Pads and the Laneige mask. COSRX and Anua are labeled fragrance free, and Illiyoon lists none.
FAQ
Where should a K-beauty beginner start?
With a sunscreen and one hydrating layer, then add a product at a time so you can tell what each one does. The K-beauty guide walks through the categories.
Do I need all ten of these?
No. Three or four cover a full routine: a cleanser, a hydrator, a moisturizer and a sunscreen. The rest solve specific problems, and if you don’t have the problem you don’t need the product.
Can sensitive skin use these?
Some of them. The essence, the toner and the Illiyoon cream are the gentlest picks here. The pads and the Glow Serum contain exfoliating acids, and four products are scented: the jelly cream and lip mask list fragrance, and the balm and pads use essential oils. Patch test anything new, and if you’re managing a condition such as eczema or rosacea, ask a dermatologist first.
How do I know a K-beauty product is the real thing?
Buy from the brand or a retailer you trust, and be wary of look-alike names and prices far below everyone else’s. COSRX’s site has a Verify Authenticity link, and Medicube publishes a guide to buying authentic products.
Bottom line
K-beauty’s reputation rests on a simple idea: gentle products, layered lightly, used every day. An essence, a sunscreen and a barrier cream do most of the work. Start with the three, give them a few weeks, and add the next product only when you can name what it’s for.
